There are a number of good hotels and rooms in Real de Catorce, however none are part of a chain. For the most part be prepared for colonial rooms with the basic necessities and to pay cash. A few hotels accept credit cards, but there may be a heavy penality at some hotels. Some hotels have excellent restaurants serving a good mix of Mexican, Italian, French, Argentinian, and Swiss cuisine.
Dollars in US currency are as welcome as pesos, but denominations larger than $20.00 USD are difficult for small shops to change.
To make reservations you can use the email address given or call on the phone. Bear in mind that most hotels have only Spanish speaking employees. To call Real de Catorce from another country, you must first dial the International Access Code (U.S. and Canada 011, Australia 0011, New Zealand 0170, U.K. 00) followed by the Country Code for Mexico, which is 52, then the area code and phone number. For instance to call the Hotel Meson de la Abudancia from the United States you would dial:

| Hotel el Real |

We have to be honest here in saying that we cannot recommend this hotel. Although the Hotel el Real has been in existence for some time, the authors of this website did not have a good experience with the owners. We rented from them for 6 months and paid a month deposit. We were told mistruth after mistruth and overcharged for laundry several times. In the end, our deposit was never returned even after numerous calls and emails. It took almost a year to get a reply and then we were told more mistruths about the reason why our deposit was not being refunded.

| Camping |

Camping is free in the area near the Plaza del Toros and the area outside of the cemetary walls. There is parking for those who drive in and you can camp in your vehicle or pitch a tent. You can purchase tents and other camping gear at Walmart in Matehuala.
Please take nothing but photos and leave nothing but footprints as you camp in the area. Leave the area better than you found it for the next person. Respect the area and clean up after yourself is always a good idea.
Hostel Alcazaba, mentioned above also has camping facilities with showers. It is located next to the Plaza del Toros and the old cemetary. |
