Real de Catorce has a great number of shopping experiences available to every budget. You will find fine art, clothing, crafts, souvenirs and much more. This is not a complete listing as some vendors do not allow photographs to be taken.
Mexican pesos and US dollars in small denominations are welcome in almost all stores. Very few places accept credit cards. There is no bank or money changing place available in Real de Catorce, although the municipal tourist office has acquired an ATM machine.
Note: In Mexico it is considered impolite to take a photo of person without permission and some believe that the photography will steal their spirit from them. To combat this some will turn away and others will demand that you delete the photo from your camera if using digital.
A shop that is not to be overlooked is the gallery of Mercedes Aquino and Simone Ferreri (yes, Mercedes and Ferreri have joined forces, at least in Real). The couple own the small but delightful El Tipi where they present their designer leather goods. Mercedes has colorful handmade leather purses that are unique in design, while Simone shows his fine leather chapeau for discerning visitors. You will also find a variety of small leather bags, and artifacts made the creative couple.

The oldest gallery in town is the Gallery Vega m57, which was created by Charly Tomorrow and Cora Van, a husband/wife team of abstract artists. Vega m57 is the name of a constallation of stars, and was chosen as the name of the gallery when Tomorrow and Van opened the gallery in 1999.
In addition to the works by these two outstanding artists you can view the works of Franz Roth, Carlos Brinn, Balz Shuermann, Anabeli Diaz, Dominique Ducreau and others who show at the Gallery on occasion.

On the other side of this doorway you will find the art of the Huichol Indians. This shop has some of the nicer pieces in the village of Real de Catorce and should not be missed.
They do not allow photos to be taken inside the shop. About halfway into the shop and on the other side of divider, you will see native Huichol Indians creating the works that are sold in the store. It is a family effort and you will see members of the family gathered around the table working away while talking about their lives. A young mother will be breastfeeding a baby, children will be playing with sticks of wood on the floor, while mother and grandmother make beaded works of art.
