As of January 1, 2025, UPS requires all shipments into Mexico must be in accordance with Mexico’s Tax Administration System (SAT) updated its General Rules of Foreign Trade which impacts all imports to Mexico. Shipments can only be received by holders of a Clave \u00danica de Registro de Poblaci\u00f3n (CURP), a unique 18-character alphanumeric code used to identify every person living in or connected to Mexico, including citizens and foreigners.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Generally, a tourist in Mexico (on an FMM or Visa Waiver) cannot get a CURP number. You need legal residency (Temporary or Permanent)\u00a0 in Mexico to be issued a CURP, as it is tied to your immigration status and used for official identification and administrative tasks like opening bank accounts or receiving packages. A tourist’s stay is short-term, while the CURP (Clave \u00danica de Registro de Poblaci\u00f3n) is for people living in Mexico, like citizens or residents.<\/p>\n

The Structure of the CURP:<\/strong>

\n\u2022 The last two characters are assigned by the National Population Registry (RENAPO) to further ensure uniqueness.<\/p>\n

Who needs a CURP:<\/strong>
