Dr. Andy Hancock
Dr. Andy Hancock is the Technical Director and co-founder of Mexar Ltd based in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. Dr. Hancock’s role involves the research, development and manufacture of inkjet inks for a variety of industrial applications.
Dr. Hancock gained a BSc in Colour and Polymer Chemistry from the University of Leeds in 1999, after which he went on to work for Akzo Nobel in Eccles Manchester where he was technical officer in the UV/EB chemicals department. He then returned to Leeds University to study and complete his PhD in Colour and Polymer Chemistry under the supervision of Professor Long Lin. He completed his PhD thesis in January 2004 titled “Preparation and Characterisation of Radiation Curable Inkjet Printing Inks”. His PhD was industrially sponsored by Xennia Technologies ltd.
In 2004, Dr. Hancock joined Nanojet Ink Ltd. He was technical manager at Nanojet until March 2008 where he was responsible for the development of a number of novel inkjet printing inks, coatings and processes.
In March 2008, Dr. Hancock co-founded Mexar Ltd. An independent inkjet development company based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Mexar specializes in the development of aqueous inkjet formulations for industrial printing processes. At Mexar, Dr. Hancock has been responsible for the development of some novel inkjet products including an ultra high stabilized white ink formulation for textile printing as well as some novel water based formulations for non porous printing applications. More recently Mexar have been specializing in the development of water based textile inks for industrial print head technologies.
Dr. Hancock has become a regular speaker at industry events, such as the Tiara group conferences, FESPA Digital Textile Conferences and also various seminars on inkjet printing/textile printing.
