Hiett was an early pioneer of the screen printing industry partially responsible for the development of photographic screen printing in the U. S. and whose books, Photo Stencil Screen Work, and 57 How To Do It Charts, served many as wonderful reference guides. His, Manual on Stencil Screen Process Work, Formulas, Working Instructions, and General Up to Date Information, is credited with being the first serious book on the screen printing process. It may also hold the longest title for a book on screen printing. His 204 page book, “Silk Screen Process Production, published in first in 1946 and later in 1950 by Blandford Press was one of the first books on production for the screenprinting process.
