Changing Address on Visa

Any foreigner within Mexico on a Tourist Visa, Temporary Residency, or Permanent Residency must notify the National Immigration Institute (INM) within 90 days of a change of address. Also be aware that if you have other documents, such a RFC you will need to change them as well. The RFC can be changed at the SAT offices or online with SAT.

To update your address on a residency visa in Cuernavaca, the process involves starting the process online to generate an online form, and booking an appointment online, submitting the printed form, and providing proof of address (e.g., an electrical bill of Telmex home phone bill) with personal visit to the INM office. The local INM office may verify the new address, which can take up to two weeks.

Steps to Update Your Address in Cuernavaca

1. Complete the Form: The necessary form is Format to Request Immigration Procedure of Stay. Fill out the Formato Básico and the Solicitud de Trámites Migratorios on the INM website.

2. Gather Documents:

  • Original and copy of your current resident card. Note the location of the NUE Number on the Residency Card.
  • Passport (original and copy).
  • Proof of address (comprobante de domicilio), such as a CFE (electricity) or Telmex bill, dated within the last 90 days. It does not have to be in your name.
  • A letter requesting the change of address, signed by you.

3. Schedule Appointment: Book an appointment at the Cuernavaca INM office via the online portal.

4. Attend Appointment: Submit your documents. Note that in some cases, the INM may conduct a home visit to verify your address. The office is located at Av. San Diego 101, Colonial Delicias, 62240 Cuernavaca, Mor. Their hours are from 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday, closed on Saturday and Sunday. Important Tips

Time: Plan on spending anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours at the office. You cannot use your phone while in the building, even to check the news, send a text message, or read a report.
Deadline: You must notify INM within 90 days of changing your address.
