Mariscos Él Pelón Restaurant Review

Shrimp Adobo – For those that enjoy spicy dishes. It is accompanied by a shaved carrot salad with cucumbers and sesame seeds, and french fries.

Those who have been in Cuernavaca for a while know that some of the best restaurants are those that are out of sight. They are often buried in neighborhoods, where the rent is inexpensive, allowing them to invest their profits into creating value for their clients. Mariscos Él Palón is just one of those restaurants and they celebrated their 11th anniversary this year. The restaurant has experienced tremendous growth and expanded last year to their second location to accommodate their clients. In the last year Mariscos Él Palón has become so popular that they again doubled in size by leasing the space next door and putting an arch in the adjoining wall.

The author has dined at Mariscos el Pelón almost weekly for the past year and has never been disappointed with the quality of the food, the service, or especially the low price, when other seafood restaurants are charging five times the price for smaller servings. The restaurant is cosy and super hygienic. The seafood is fresh, purchased each morning right off the trucks as they arrive from the coast. And, if you ask, they will bring the fish to your table before preparing it.

Note: If you are allergic to sesame seeds, be sure to tell them and request that they do not use them on your dish.

They are open from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Saturday, and closed on Sundays. Parking is available in front of the restaurant. The address on Google Maps is correct, but you can use the geo address of 18.9318025,-99.2284575 for directions to the restaurant.

For those who enjoy spicy dishes, ask for the Camarones al Adobo (Spicy Jumbo Shrimp). When the author made his first visit to the restaurant, this was the dish that he ordered. The server, Norma, with a shocked look on her face, suggested that it was very spicy and perhaps, as a foreigner, another dish might be more suitable. After some assurances, Norma took the order. When she brought it to the table, she stood away for a moment with her arms crossed waiting to ensure everything was okay. Seemingly satisfied, she finally left but returned several times to ask if everything was satisfactory. Yes, the Camarones al Adobo was spicy, but it was an excellent meal,  paired with the shaved carrot salad and french fries to offset the heat.
