Introducing Advice from Abuela

Some will remember famous advice columnists, such as Ann Landers, penned by Ruth Crowley in 1943 and beginning in 1955 by Esther Pauline Lederer. Or Pauline Phillips, who wrote Dear Abby in 1956, and is, as of this writing, still carried on by her daughter Jeanne Phillips.

One thing we all have in common is asking for advice. None can have all the answers to life’s problems, and are hopeful that others do and are willing to share their advice. There are numerous online social groups where people seek advice on their pressing issues. Some social groups fall short because the answers are never published, but answered privately. Of course, if one person has a problem, it is often safe to assume that others have the same problem. Without the answers being shared, the same question gets repeated over and over.

This month, we launch a new advice column, Advice from Abuela, offering sage advice on problems in Cuernavaca. And, who better to advise someone much older than most of us? Someone happy to share their grandmotherly wisdom and life lessons.

The column focuses on themes like manners, housekeeping, cooking, recipes, health, resilience, kindness, family, and learning from mistakes, offering a blend of wisdom, love, and life experience. The sentiments of a grandmother’s advice can be found in various forms.

We hope the readers find Advice from Abuela helpful. To see the articles, click on Advice from Abuela in the Categories List on every page of this website. Hint: it will appear at the bottom of the pages if you are using a cellular phone.
